Plan With God

Calendars. Planners. Lists.

These are often the tools we reach for when preparing for a new year, entering a new season, or simply organizing a new week. With the big picture in mind, we chart our steps and determine the actions that will move us toward our desired outcome.

Planning is wise. Strategy is purposeful.

Yet wisdom invites us beyond our own strategic capabilities and into surrender.

Consider this. In business, effective strategic planning requires having the right people in the room. One perspective will always have limitations and blind spots. How much more should we invite God—the One who is omniscient, possessing infinite knowledge—into the room when we make plans for our lives?

Planning with God gives us access to a perspective we could never possess on our own.

Practically, this means we pray while making plans concerning our families, careers, businesses, ministries, and creative endeavors. We invite God's Word to guide our decisions and give Him permission to redirect what we have already decided.

James 4:15 teaches us to say, "If the Lord wants us to, we will live and do this or that." Proverbs 16:3 echoes that posture: "Commit your actions to the Lord, and your plans will succeed."

This kind of wisdom requires more than adding prayer to plans we have already finalized. It invites us to sit with the Father before we fill the calendar.

What if, before deciding what comes next, we first asked God what He desires?

Surrender does not mean abandoning planning. It means refusing to make our plans independent of the One who already knows what is ahead.

There will always be details we cannot anticipate, circumstances we cannot control, and outcomes we cannot predict. But there is never a moment God cannot see.

So open the planner. Make the list. Develop the strategy.

But first, sit with the Father.

Let His voice and His will be written on your heart before your plans are ever written on the page.
