Money Needs Wisdom
Have you ever noticed how conversations about money often reveal what we trust most?
Money has a way of exposing our fears, our priorities, and even our worship. That is why Proverbs doesn't simply teach us how to handle money. It teaches us how to honor God with it.
Proverbs 3 invites us to bring God our first and our best. It is an invitation to trust Him before we trust our own ability to provide. Proverbs 21:20 reminds us that wisdom also values restraint. The wise do not consume everything they have. They live with intentionality, recognizing that faithful stewardship requires both generosity and discipline.
Think about this. Every financial decision is also a faith decision. This is one of the ways God has been shaping my own heart. He has shown me that generosity is often less about what is in my hands and more about what is happening in my heart. There have been seasons when fear tempted me to hold tightly to what I had. Giving felt risky because I was looking to my resources for security instead of looking to God.
Yet with every step of obedience, I have discovered that honoring God with my finances is not about the size of the gift. It is about the posture of the heart.
Every act of generosity loosens my grip on money and strengthens my trust in Him. I have also learned that wisdom is not merely knowing how to manage money. It is knowing not to worship it.
Money is a wonderful servant but a terrible savior. When it becomes our source of security, identity, or peace, it quietly takes a place that belongs only to God. Jesus reminds us in Matthew 6 that where our treasure is, our hearts will follow. Whatever we value most will eventually shape who we become.
Financial wisdom is part of our spiritual formation. Learning to budget wisely, save faithfully, give generously, and live contentedly are all ways God teaches us that everything we have belongs to Him.
The goal is not simply to accumulate more. The goal is to become people who trust God more than anything money could ever provide.
Daily Challenge
Spend a few quiet minutes praying over your finances this week. Ask God to reveal any place where fear, control, or the pursuit of wealth has become more influential than trust in Him. Then take one intentional step of worship, whether by giving generously, creating or reviewing your budget, setting aside savings with gratitude, or simply thanking God for His faithful provision.
Prayer
Father, thank You for being my faithful Provider. Forgive me for the times I have trusted money more than I have trusted You. Teach me to honor You with everything You have entrusted to my care. Give me wisdom to steward my resources faithfully, courage to live generously, and contentment that is rooted in Your goodness rather than my circumstances. Help me remember that You—not wealth—are my greatest treasure. Shape my heart so that every financial decision reflects my trust in You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
