Peacemakers Carry Wisdom

Proverb ReadingProverbs 12:18; 15:4
Supporting ScriptureMatthew 5:9

Have you ever noticed how one sentence can stay with you for years?

Sometimes it is a word of encouragement that gave you courage when you wanted to give up. Other times, it is a careless comment that wounded your confidence long after the conversation ended.

Many of us grew up hearing the phrase, "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me." Yet life teaches us otherwise. Broken bones often heal faster than words spoken against our identity, our value, or our purpose. Solomon understood this well.

Proverbs 12:18 tells us, "The words of the reckless pierce like swords, but the tongue of the wise brings healing." Proverbs 15:4 continues, "A gentle tongue is a tree of life, but perverseness in it breaks the spirit."

Think about this. Every conversation plants something. Our words either leave wounds that linger or seeds that bring life. That is why wisdom is not simply about avoiding harmful speech. It is about becoming someone whose words consistently reflect the heart of God.

We see this throughout the ministry of Jesus. When He sent His disciples into the surrounding towns, He commissioned them to preach, heal, restore, and bring hope. Later, they returned amazed at what God had done through them. Jesus did not merely give them instructions. He spoke words that empowered them to walk confidently in the assignment He had given them.

Our words have the same opportunity every day. In our homes. At work. With our children. With our friends. Even with strangers.

Who are you empowering? Who feels stronger because they encountered your words today? Who walks away with greater hope because you chose encouragement over criticism, gentleness over harshness, and truth spoken in love instead of frustration?

As we spend time in God's Word, His voice begins to shape ours. The more we listen to the One whose words always bring life, the more our own words begin to heal, encourage, and restore the people around us.

Wisdom becomes visible when our mouths reflect the heart of our Father. May every conversation become another opportunity to plant life where someone else expected to find pain.

Think about this: Think about a conversation that has stayed with you for years. How did those words shape you? How might God be inviting you to replace words that wound with words that bring healing and life?

Daily Challenge

Read Psalm 118 aloud today, allowing God's promises to remind you of who He says you are. Then intentionally speak one life-giving word over someone else— a family member, friend, coworker, or neighbor. Let your words become a reflection of the healing you have first received from God.

Prayer

Father, thank You for speaking words of life over me. Thank You that Your truth has the power to heal every wound, restore every broken place, and remind me of who I am in You. Shape my heart so that my words reflect Yours. Guard my tongue from careless speech, and teach me to speak with wisdom, gentleness, and love. Let every conversation become an opportunity to encourage, strengthen, and bring hope to someone else.

May the healing I have received from You overflow through my words into the lives of those around me. In Jesus' name, Amen.
