The Mirror You Need

An open rebuke may not always feel comfortable, but it is often one of God's greatest gifts.

Proverbs reminds us that loving correction is evidence of faithful friendship. It reflects the kind of community God desires for us, a community where people care enough to lovingly tell us the truth and help us become more like Christ.

Think about this. Sometimes God answers our prayers for growth by placing a mirror in front of us. That mirror may come through a trusted friend, a mentor, a spouse, or someone who loves us enough to speak honestly. Left to ourselves, we can easily overlook the very things others see clearly.

Pride has a way of convincing us that we have nothing left to learn, while humility keeps our hearts open to God's ongoing work. Pride quietly overestimates our strength, our understanding, and even our spiritual maturity. But wisdom welcomes correction because it understands that growth begins with surrender.

A teachable heart is willing to ask, "Lord, show me what I cannot see on my own." As followers of Christ, we should regularly invite God to examine our hearts. His correction is never intended to shame us but to transform us. Every loving correction is another opportunity to become more like Jesus.

Faithful friends become mirrors that help us see what pride tries to hide. Instead of resisting those moments, wisdom invites us to receive them with gratitude, trusting that God often speaks through the people He has placed around us.

Today, don't fear correction. Welcome it. Humility is not a sign that you are failing. It is evidence that you are still growing.
