Listen Before You Lead
Have you ever sensed God leading you into a new season that required more of you? Maybe He's calling you into ministry. Maybe He's preparing you for marriage. Maybe He's stirring you to start the business you've been postponing. Whatever the calling may be, every new season requires more than confidence. It requires wisdom.
One of the greatest expressions of wisdom is seeking godly counsel and embracing accountability. Proverbs 18:2 reminds us, "Fools find no pleasure in understanding but delight in airing their own opinions." Proverbs 19:20 adds, "Listen to advice and accept discipline, and at the end you will be counted among the wise."
Think about this. The strongest leaders are not the ones who know everything. They are the ones who never stop learning. Seeking wise counsel is not a sign of weakness. It is evidence of humility, strength, and a heart that desires to grow. James 3:17 reminds us that the wisdom God gives is pure, peace-loving, considerate, merciful, impartial, and full of good fruit. As we remain sensitive to the Holy Spirit and open to the voices of wise people God places around us, He continues shaping us into leaders who reflect His character.
God never intended for us to carry His calling alone. He provides His Spirit to guide us and surrounds us with people who sharpen, encourage, and lovingly correct us. Isolation often creates fertile ground for pride, while awise community cultivates humility and growth.
What if, instead of carrying every responsibility by yourself, you leaned more fully on God and welcomed the people He has entrusted to strengthen you? What if feedback became something you valued rather than avoided? Wisdom begins by listening.
It grows when we ask questions, receive correction, and remain teachable. Every conversation with atrusted mentor, every moment of accountability, and every act of humility prepares us to lead with greater faithfulness.
Allow God's guidance and His loving structure to take root in your heart. As you do, He will strengthen you, not only for the season you're entering but also for the people He has called you to serve.
Daily Challenge
Identify one area where you have resisted guidance or feedback. This week, intentionally invite one or two trusted, godly people to speak into that area. Listen with an open heart, ask thoughtful questions, and prayerfully consider how God may be using their counsel to strengthen and sharpen you.
Prayer
Father, thank You for reminding me that I never have to walk alone. Teach me to seek You before I lead and to value the wisdom You provide through Your Spirit and the people You have placed in my life. Give me a humble and teachable heart that welcomes correction, receives wise counsel, and grows through accountability. Guard me from pride, and help me lead with wisdom, grace, and dependence on You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
